2010
I’ve owned the domain since college. Three years ago I re-upped it’s registration and I contracted my good friend Greg Vilines at Webnormous to begin work on the site. Then a combination of producing an album, playing in a band, get married, and having his house burn down slowed Greg’s progress on the site a bit. A combination of helping with the album, buying a house, running a photo business, general laziness, and getting engaged slowed me down too. I know my excuses aren’t as valid as a house fire, but regardless of the timing, it is finally LIVE!
Greg built the whole thing from scratch and he did a damn good job on it. I know I was a difficult client at times but in the end we got it all worked out. There will be a few tweaks made in the coming months, but since it’s 99% done, we figured why not launch it? This will be a soft opening for my six blog readers and facebook friends until I get it 100% finished.
Keep in mind the new site isn’t going to be a replacement for the blog- just think of it as a “best of Alex the Photo Guy.” I’ll still keep you up to date with my crazy photo antics here on the blog, so don’t stop reading!
Let me know what you think! Many thanks again to Greg who did all the hard work. All I did was take a few photos. If you need a website, let me know and I’ll get you in contact with Webnormous.

2009
Alrighty. So this is the first post on Alex the Photo Blog. I’m going to totally cheat and backdate this to when I took these pix. Once I get caught up on 2009, then I’ll stop cheating. Thanks for stopping by and I hope that this blog will become a regular favorite of yours to read.
Feel free to subscribe to the RSS feed at the bottom of the page. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, but use gmail or google- here’s how. Go to the bottom of this page and right click the RSS link for entries. Then “copy shortcut.” Now go to www.igoogle.com and make sure you’re signed in. Once you’re signed in, click on “Add Stuff” at the top right of the page. Then go to the bottom left where it says “Add Feed or Gadget” and click. Then paste in the link you just copied (make sure it didn’t double the “http://” at the beginning- sometimes it does that). Then when you go back to your google page- WHAM-O! You’ll see Alex the Photo Blog. It’ll automatically update anytime I do. Awesome!
If that was way too much to ask of you (and I understand- you’re new here), then just read on and look at the pretty pictures below.
So, here’s my first real shoot of 2009. It was for my co-worker Michele. She told me she wanted to add some color above her mantle and asked me if I could shoot some roses for her. Of course I said yes, not knowing quite how to do it but as it turns out wasn’t too hard. Just a black backdrop and my trusty Canon speedlight on a stand with an umbrella produced these shots. I also had my roommie, Greta, hold a regular desk lamp at some odd angles to try and mess with the light.
This is the shot Michele ordered. If you click on the pictures, they’ll take you to the whole gallery.

However, here are a few others I thought turned out alright. Good thing I had a publix nearby with roses on sale. I told Keri they were for her… but I think she figured out my true motive when I set up the lights, tripod, and backdrop. That sounds bad. Nevermind.
